At High Horse Art, we love our leaves! With expert craftsmanship, we create one-of-a-kind botanical pieces and cannabis-themed gifts. As a reuse artist, I'm proud to give materials a renewed purpose and celebrate the beauty of second chances.
The High Horse Difference: our products are crafted with care using real marijuana leaves. Cannabis plants provide a good source of natural dye when hand hammered; and although nothing in life or nature lasts forever, we use a vigorous and multi-step process to increase the vibrancy and longevity of our products.

Tatakizome, or flower pounding, is a traditional Japanese method of transferring plant pigments directly onto fabric through hammering. Mordants, typically mineral salts, are used as a pretreatment which acts as a fixative that allows natural dyes to bond deeply; ensuring rich, enduring color and extending the life of the artwork. To obtain our signature detail, our intensive hammering can take over an hour for a single large leaf. The dye transfer's vibrancy naturally differs depending on the individual leaf and the specific cannabis cultivar used. Finally, we heat set the image and add UV and protective finishes to preserve the impressions.
Our specialized preservation techniques go beyond traditional book pressing, allowing us to maintain exceptional leaf quality and detail which further enhances the longevity and vibrancy of our botanical materials. Subtle color enhancement may also be done. Our pieces are finished with a UV and secondary sealant. On surfaces that may experience additional wear, we apply a durable resin for added protection.
To keep your fabric pieces vibrant, gently spot clean only. Prolong the color and integrity of both fabric and other leaf art by avoiding direct sunlight during display and storage. Although we add multiple steps to our process to add longevity to our art, all botanical pieces can be expected to fade over time, just like your favorite denim.
High Horse Art is about celebrating creativity in all its forms, giving new life to the old, and seeing beauty in the unexpected. We find inspiration in the world of cannabis and create pieces that playfully nod to this fascinating plant. We dream big and aim high! Enjoy!
High Horse Art is a name born from a mix of nostalgia and my surroundings. A rescued toy sparked the 'horse' element, while living in horse country solidified it. The 'high' part? Let's just say it's a little wink to the cannabis leaves that are known to fuel creative endeavors.
Hay there! I'm Maureen, the creative spirit behind High Horse Art. I have a knack for spotting the potential in overlooked items and transforming them into something unique and eye-catching. Thank you for stopping by!
